Animation is "not the art of making pictures that move but the art of movements that are drawn" (Norman McLaren). Currently, on the world wide web, a renaissance of animation is taking place. Due to the novelty of the field, there is no academic research on animation on the net yet. We try to provide a first scanning of the field and eventually hope to separate the wheat from the chaff. 2008-08-15 | Animation in New Media presents Machinima at GC Germany

From 21. - 24.08.2008 Animation in New Media in cooperation with Leipziger Messe will present a machinima booth at the GC - Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany - Europe's largest games and interactive entertainment exhibition. For the third time this cooperation will present machinima movies and software to an audience of 200.000 visitors estimated. We want to show creative, artistic and innovative uses of games as great animation and movie making tools. We want to promote machinima and to call visitor's attention to machinima's great potentials.

The booth's concept is based on three main parts: A machinima cinema will present machinima productions on a large silver screen. The program of the machinima cinema will be supported by short presentations introducing to machinima production and creative approaches to games. A small machinima lab invites visitors to try out several machinima tools.
